German Apple Dumplings: Simplified

Tonight I made some Easy German Apple Dumplings for my hubby and kids.  My husband ate them, and ate them, and ate them.  They absolutely loved them.  I thought I would take the time to share them with you all.  They are very easy to make and come out deliciously.  Hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
German Apple Dumplings:  Simplified

  •  3 c. sugar
  •  2 c. butter/margarine
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 12 oz. Mountain Dew
  • cinnamon
  1. Melt butter/margarine in a small pot.
  2. Once it is completely melted, stir in the sugar and 2 tsp. of cinnamon.  Stir and allow to come to a small boil.
  3. As it is cooking, unroll each crescent roll and leave each roll in its triangular form.
  4. Peel and core the apples.  Then cut apples into 8 pieces each.
  5. Place an apple slice on the small end of a crescent roll and roll it up and seal the edges.
  6. Place them in an oiled cake pan.
  7. Once the liquid has come to a small boil, pour the mixture over each "dumpling".
  8. Pour the Mountain Dew over each dumpling.
  9. Sprinkle each with cinnamon.
  10. Bake for 35 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven.
  11. Once the apples are softened, serve alone and drizzled with the sauce or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

    Picnic worthy food!

One of the blogs I read regularly asked for picnic recipes so I decided to share some of my favorites here too.

    Peaches & Tomatoes
Slice up some peaches and tomatoes.  Sprinkle with lemon juice and a dash of salt and pepper and coat with a thin layer of olive oil.

    Ham & Cheese Croissants
I purchase some deli ham (shaved) and some deli cheese.  I then stop by the bakery and buy some fresh croissants.  Slice the croissants, add the ham and cheese.  Wrap them in paper towels and microwave a few seconds.  These taste so delicious whether they are hot or cold.

    Fruit Dip

    1 c. plain yogurt
    1/4 c. honey
    1 tsp. orange juice

Mix the ingredients together and use to dip all your favorite types of fruit.

I would love to read your favorite picnic recipes.  Please leave your comments and recipes below.

    Crockpot Potato & Chicken Deliciousness

I love cooking in the crockpot.  It is a great way to cook a good meal for you family without all the fuss and hard work.  It is great to just put all the ingredients into the crockpot and forget about it until it is time to eat and here is one of my family's favorites.
    Potato & Chicken Deliciousness

    2 cans of chicken
3 cans of cream of chicken soup
    2 tsp. dried chopped onions
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 c. crushed cornflakes
    3 cans diced potatoes

Place all ingredients into crockpot and cook on low 4 hours or on high for 8 hours.  Either way it will turn out delicious.  We always serve this meal with some biscuits.

Now for a real treat:  Here is a link to another blog that has over 100 crockpot recipes on it.  Here is the link, be sure to check it out.  Over 100 crock pot recipes on Smockity Frocks

    A light Summer Pie

This is a great recipe to enjoy on a nice summer evening.  It is really light and fluffy and goes down great with a tall glass of iced tea.

    Summer Pie
    1 sm. pkg. strawberry Jell-O
    2/3 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. cold water
    8 oz. Cool Whip
    ice cubes
    graham cracker crust

Pour envelope of Jell-o into a bowl.  Stir the boiling water into the Jell-o and continue to stir for 2 minutes.  Take a 1 cup measuring cup and add in the cold water and enough ice to equal 1 cup.  Pour into Jell-o and stir until the ice melts.  Fold in the Cool whip and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.  After 30 minutes, remove the mixture and spoon it into the crust.  Refrigerate another 4 hours and then enjoy!
