Giving of oneself

This past week in our homeschool, I taught the children the importance of caring for the elderly, volunteerism, and charity.  Children learn by doing (and by example) so we went to my mother-in-law's home and the children and my husband spent two hours cleaning up her yard.  Ron cut hanging tree limbs and the boys hauled off the limbs, cut/pulled weeds, and cleaned up her yard.
We used the Bible as a reference and learned that God would be pleased with their work.

“Give, and it shall be given to you. A good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall be put into your lap. For with the same measure with which you measure, it shall be measured back to you.” – Luke 6:38

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' - Acts 20:35

Here is Brandon living Colossians 3:23
"Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."

Ronny:  "Now how do these work?"

  1. For those of you concerned, we did teach the boys how to handle the tools they would be using beforehand. :-)
